N. T. van der Merwe

Nicolaas Theodor van der Merwe (1932-2004)

Van der Merwe studied as a post-graduate in philosophy at the Potchefstroom University for C.H.E. Post-graduate studies in Philosophy (with H. G. Stoker & J. A. L. Taljaard).

He completed a Masters degree in Philosophy with a thesis on Philosophical Logic “Op weg na ‘n Christelike Logika”.

He studied at the VU Amsterdam from 1959 in Philosophy (with H. Dooyeweerd, M. C. Smit, D. H. TH. Vollenhoven, and S. U. Zuidema) and Early Christian Latin Literature (with A. Sizoo & J. J. Thierry). He obtained his DPhil degree in 1964. He also attended lectures in Philosophy at the Universities of Utrecht and Leiden (C. J. de Vogel, J. P. A. Mekkes, A. E. Loen, C. A. van Peursen) and Early Christian Latin Literature at the Universities of Amsterdam and Leiden.

In 1963 he was appointed lecturer of Philosophy at the Potchefstroom University and promoted to senior lecturer in 1965. From 1969-1970 he engaged in post-graduate research on the Philosophy of Augustine at the VU Amsterdam with S U Zuidema & M C Smit as tutors.

From 1976 he was professor of philosophy at PUCHE.
